PowerPoint’s Presenter View – How to Use It

Presenter View is a PowerPoint feature that helps you focus on your audience while keeping track of the presentation at the same time. It shows you your speaker notes and other information, which the audience cannot see. They will only see your presentation, while you get access to features that will help you deliver presentations with more confidence. This article will help you learn more about Presenter View, and how you can make the most out of it.

Enable Presenter View

First off, to enable presenter view:

  • Select the Slide Show tab in the ribbon menu.
  • Select the From Beginning button.
  • Click on the icon with 3 dots at the bottom of the slide.
  • Click on Show Presenter View.

Using Presenter View

Once you enable presenter view, considering that you have 2 displays (a laptop or a computer you are using, and a display where the presentation appears), you will see 2 screens.

The main screen will display slides for your audience to see.

The presenter view will display additional information, only for you, including:

The current slide on display, and the next slide. Use this to preview the upcoming slide and to stay ahead of your presentation.

Speaker notes. Add speaker notes to each slide to have them appear here. Include key points and reminders for yourself to ensure a smooth presentation delivery.

Timer. This helps you keep track of your presentation. Never exceed the allotted time for your presentation again.

Slide thumbnails. Quickly navigate to any slide in your presentation, especially useful during discussions and Q&A sessions.

Controlling the Presentation

You can use the arrow keys, or the buttons provided to navigate between the slides.

Click on a thumbnail to jump to a specific slide directly.

Use the pen tools and highlighter to annotate your slides as you present.

Use Black Screen to hide your slides from the audience, very useful at times.

Additional Tips for Using Presenter View

  • Make sure you practice with the Presenter View before you deliver the presentation.
  • Check your speaker notes to ensure that they’re concise and clear.
